MAN Truck & Bus, the commercial vehicle manufacturer, achieved substantial growth across all product lines in the financial year 2023.
Truck Sales Increase by 44 Per Cent
The company delivered about 116,000 vehicles to customers, marking a remarkable 37-per cent increase from the previous year. Overcoming challenges such as supply bottlenecks and a pandemic-induced dip in bus demand, the company also sold 11,600 engines.
Friedrich Baumann, Chief Sales and Customer Solutions Officer at MAN Truck & Bus SE, said: “After some very challenging years, we are back on the road to success. We could score points with our innovative product portfolio and customer-oriented services, which is one of the reasons why the 2023 financial year brought us record sales in some cases. Thanks to a strong team performance across all areas of the company, we could meet the extremely high demand in the best possible way and deliver more vehicles and engines than we have for years.”
Truck sales experienced robust growth, surging by 44 per cent year-on-year to around 83,700 units while bus sales saw a 19-per cent increase, reaching around 5,700 units. Notably, the coach segment, which suffered from the pandemic, rebounded significantly, with coach sales more than doubling to above 1,100 vehicles.
As MAN secured vital tenders in the city bus sector and the trend towards battery-electric vehicles continued, e-bus sales soared. The transition is evident, with 771 electric city buses sold in 2023, compared to 263 in 2022. MAN‘s commitment to decarbonising its vehicle fleet is underscored by the market launch of the eTruck in October, aligning with the goal to have half of all new MAN trucks and about 90 per cent of new city buses with battery-electric drive by 2030. The company is also actively developing an electric coach for the future.
The van business witnessed significant expansion, surpassing pre-corona figures as the company delivered a record-breaking 26,600 vans to customers, reflecting a substantial 23-per cent increase.
The external engine business had its second-most successful year since 2014, with around 11,600 engines sold. Above half of these engines were distributed to customers in the agricultural sector for applications such as tractors or combine harvesters.
