Daimler Truck officially opened its Battery Technology Center (BTC) at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Mannheim, Germany.
New Battery Tech Hub Boosts Daimler Truck’s Electric Future
The BTC, spanning above 10,000 square metres, merges development and production to enable experts to deepen their understanding of batteries and their manufacturing processes. Initially named InnoLab Battery, the centre features two primary production areas: one for pilot cell production to develop process knowledge and another for assembling prototype battery packs for testing. This pilot line is pivotal for preparing the Mannheim site for future series production, anticipated to commence in the second half of the decade with the introduction of the next generation of lithium-ion batteries.
Andreas Gorbach, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler Truck and responsible for Truck Technology, said: “The opening of our Battery Technology Center is an important step in electrifying our product portfolio – and yet another milestone in the history of innovation at the Mannheim plant. We decided to take care of the assembly of the future battery generation ourselves and thus keep important added value in-house……”
