Commercial vehicle production and sales plummet in March 2025, with MAA reporting a 29% sales drop and 22% YTD production fall.

MAA: Long Hari Raya Break Hurt CV Segment

The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) reported a significant downturn in the commercial vehicle (CV) segment for March 2025, reflecting persistent challenges in both production and sales.
In March 2025, commercial vehicle production reached just 2,762 units, a 12 per cent decrease compared to 3,145 units produced in March 2024.

The year-to-date figues paint an even grimmer picture, with CV production plummeting 22 per cent to 8,806 units. During the same period last year, production number stood at 11,232 units.

Sales Slump Deepened

Sales of commercial vehicles were hit even harder. March 2025 recorded a steep 29 per cent decline, with only 4,530 units sold compared to 6,359 units in March 2024. The cumulative sales for the first quarter of 2025 dropped 33 per cent year-on-year, totalling 11,652 units versus 17,360 units in the corresponding period of 2024.

Despite a broader industry boost driven by festive demand, the CV segment has yet to recover its footing. MAA cited the upcoming long Hari Raya festive break (March 31 – April 6) as a factor likely to further dampen April’s commercial vehicle performance, with reduced business activity expected to weigh on both production and sales.
