Johor Sand & Granite Lorry Operators’ Association Continues to Raise Road Safety Awareness

The Johor Sand & Granite Lorry Operators’ Association (JSGLOA) has organised various road safety seminars and campaigns over the years to raise awareness of road safety among its members. After two years of lockdown to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus, the Association is all set to roll out its activities again.

Truck & Bus News was invited by JSGLOA to attend its road safety awareness campaign on 27th February at the Association’s premises in Johor. ‘Zero Violation and Telematics Compliance Driving Behaviour for Heavy Vehicle Driver’ was the theme for the safety campaign.

The event and Driver Care Apps were officiated by the Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong. During his speech, he said the Transport Ministry sought to speed up the amendment of the Road Transport Act or Act 333 to impose heavier punishment on offenders involved in drugs, alcohol or reckless driving.

“We do not just want to punish traffic offenders as we also care about advocacy. Because through this approach, we could educate road users to be prudent users, love themselves and love those around them. Various efforts were made in streamlining advocacy programmes throughout the country, especially involving commercial vehicles, including lorries, buses and trailers. Among them is the Safety Awareness and Focused Advocacy for Road Users (SAFER) programme.”

One of the main focuses of this programme includes the Advocacy of Commercial and Commercial Vehicles, especially goods vehicles, which involves the JPJ Enforcement Division and strategic partners such as the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), PUSPAKOM, Drivers Association, Hino Logistics Company, Volvo Trucks, Scania Petron, BHPetrol and MKJR. To date, he said, 75 programmes were successfully implemented under the SAFER initiative.

In conjunction with this campaign, JSGLOA hosted a simple inauguration ceremony for its office premises. There was also a mini exhibition featuring vehicles from Volvo Trucks, Hong Seng Group and Truck Nation Malaysia, petroleum and petrochemical products from Sinopec, Global Positioning System (GPS) from Safe Truck Sdn Bhd and the participation of government agencies. Wee was accompanied by JSGLOA President Frankie during the tour.
