PMLOA Celebrates 30th Anniversary

The Pan-Malaysia Lorry Owners’ Association (PMLOA) celebrated its 30th anniversary on 11th November, 2017 at the Setia City Convention Centre with an exhibition and a grand dinner. More than 800 people attended the event, including members, suppliers, guests and the media. Truck & Bus News was the media partner for the event.

Twenty-eight exhibitors participated in the exhibition, displaying a variety of products including lubricants, tyres, parts, tools and equipment, lifting equipment, paint and accessories, to name a few. Among the exhibitors were the Association’s platinum sponsors who showcased their trucks; CAMC truck by Daeauto Industries Sdn Bhd, Dongfeng truck by Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles (M) Sdn Bhd, XCMG truck by Hong Seng Group, Shacman truck by Shaanxi Trucks Sdn Bhd and Isuzu truck by Isuzu Malaysia Sdn Bhd. Government agencies such as the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya (JKJR) also took part in the show.

“Over the years, PMLOA has been an important platform to establish communication between trucking operators and the various government agencies. It is through constant communication that truck operators would continue to thrive under the agencies regulation, and government policies would not have a negative impact on our industries. I believe that we can forge a closer relationship by having more regular meetings and policies review with related government agencies,” said President Anthony Tan in his opening speech.

He continued that another milestone the Association achieved in 2016 was that it had officially joined the Asean Trucking Federation to become part of the force in the Asean arena. This meant PMLOA was now an association body that would represent Malaysia in cross-border transportation between Asean nations. With trade globalisation rapidly developing, the demand for trucking would continue to grow on the national and Asean levels.

As technology became more advance, he said the trucking industry should embrace technology such as broadband connectivity, big data, artificial intelligence and autonomous tracking technology to become more competitive. The Government, he stressed, should be the main driver in encouraging technology adoption by trucking companies.

Among the highlights were the cake cutting and toasting ceremony, souvenir presentation to the platinum, gold and silver sponsors and a lucky draw. What is worth mentioning was the Nippon Paint sponsorship for the lucky draw – free repainting of 5 units of maximum 5-tonne prime-mover using the Nippon Ultima 2K painting system. CB Longmarch Tyre Sdn Bhd  was the sponsor of a ‘Tyre Guessing Game’ in which  guests participated by guessing the weight of a Longmarch Truck & Bus Radial tyre that was on display.

The Association also published an Exclusive Souvenir Bulletin that was distributed to all the guests.
