New Dedicated Bus Service for Kuala Terengganu

Terengganu’s capital will shortly feature a dedicated bus service similar to the MyRapid bus service in the Klang Valley according to a report in the New Straits Times.

Terengganu infrastructure, public amenities, energy and green technology committee chairman Rosli Othman stated that the MyBas service is a programme under the New Terengganu Transformation Plan. He said to the New Straits Times, “we will begin with 32 buses, eight of which are electric vehicles, to serve nine routes.”

Othman continued, “the service has been approved by the Land Public Transport Commission,” he told the state legislative assembly in response to a question from Air Putih assemblyman Wan Abdul Hakim Wan Mokhtar.

The routes are Kuala Terengganu-Manir-Gong Badak-Batu Rakit; Kuala Terengganu-Seberang Takir-Gong Badak-Merang Jetty; Kuala Terengganu-Tepoh-Padang Maras-Batu Rakit); Kuala Terengganu-Wakaf Tapai-Kuala Berang; Kuala Terengganu-Pasir Panjang-Kampung Laut-Bukit Payong; Kuala Terengganu-Panji Alam-Kedai Buluh-UCSI; Kuala Terengganu-Losong-Sungai Rengas-Rawai-Bukit Payong; Kuala Terengganu-Chendering, UiTM-Marang; and the Kuala Terengganu City Feeder.

Rosli said to the New Straits Times that the electric vehicles would in the beginning serve the city centre’s feeder service along the Kuala Terengganu-Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital-Batu Buruk Beach-Giant and Mydin shopping centres.

“The existing stage bus services operated by Cas Ligas and SP Bumi will be integrated with MyBas so that the two former companies can continue being in business. The fares will be made a lot more affordable,” he said, adding that the MyBas service would be expanded progressively to additional towns across the state.
