Emei Driverless electric bus has no driver’s seat, suitable for use as a travel bus, commuter bus and airport shuttle bus in the near future.
Sichuan Bus Manufacturing Co, Ltd, a bus manufacturer located in Chengdu City, Sichuan, showcased its driverless electric bus – Emei EM6590BEVZ – at the recent concluded CAPAS 2019.
The 6-metre long driverless bus is the result of collaboration between the company and Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU). It uses the commercial driverless vehicle Level 4 technology in the new energy bus and has already produced it in a small volume. Powered by a lithium iron phosphate battery, the maximum speed of the driverless bus is 40km/h and it could cover 285km on a single charge.
It has no driver’s seat, featuring rounded bench-style seating, suitable for use as a travel bus, commuter bus as well as airport shuttle bus in the near future. With a rated passenger capacity of 19 to 29, it has ample standing room for passengers.
It is said that the vehicle is currently on trial runs and the company planned to put more units at the Jianchuan Museum in Da Yi County, Chengdu and conduct internal road testing before it hits the road.
Sichuan Bus Manufacturing has been producing buses for more than 80 years. The company offers a wide range of Emei buses, from city bus, long haul bus, sleeper bus, double decker bus to double decker luxury bus.
