Daimler Truck and Volvo Launch Coretura to Drive Software Innovation in Commercial Vehicles

Volvo Group CEO Martin Lundstedt, Coretura CEO Johan Lundén, and Daimler Truck CEO Karin Rådström at the launch of Coretura AB in Gothenburg, June 2025.

Coretura, a Daimler TruckVolvo joint venture, launches in Sweden to develop software for commercial vehicles and digital fleet innovation.

Johan Lundén from Volvo Group Serves as CEO

Daimler Truck and Volvo Group officially launched their new technology joint venture, Coretura AB, on June 17, 2025. The new company is tasked to produce digital applications for both Daimler Truck and Volvo, as well as future customers.

The joint venture agreement was signed last year on October 28, 2024. Coretura is based in Gothenburg, Sweden, and has begun operating this month.

“With Coretura, we are setting a clear strategic focus on software development for commercial vehicles. This is a big and really exciting step — not just for us, but for the entire industry and our customers,” said Karin Rådström, President and CEO of Daimler Truck.

Martin Lundstedt, President and CEO of the Volvo Group, added, “Coretura represents a natural step forward in the evolution of commercial vehicles. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and collaborative innovation, we’re setting the stage for a new era of connectivity and efficiency in the industry. This venture underscores our commitment to not only advancing our products but also paving the way for sustainable and intelligent transportation solutions.”

Four-member Executive Management team comprising two members from each company will lead the new company with Johan Lundén from Volvo Group serving as CEO. Lundén previously held responsibility for Strategic Product Planning, Project, and Innovation management.

The Digital Future of Commercial Vehicles

According to Daimler Truck‘s official statement, the mission of Coretura is “to build the non-differentiating core, a standardized and open software-defined vehicle platform and dedicated commercial vehicle operating system”.

The newly formed company is also tasked to specify and procure centralized high-performance control units at a large scale to fit the needs of commercial vehicles and handle large amounts of data. This will allow customers to purchase and update their firmware wirelessly over the air to enhance safety, efficiency, and customer experience.

“This joint venture blends the agility of a start-up with the stability and expertise of our major shareholders. We are proud and energized to lead the digital transformation in the commercial vehicle industry—backed by strong shareholder support and committed to shaping the industry’s future,” Lundén noted.

With 50 employees at the beginning of its journey, Coretura follows a collaborative co-development approach with its customers and other partners and suppliers. It aims to launch its first products in vehicles by the end of the decade.

The formation of Coretura, however, will not make Daimler Truck and Volvo Group stop being competitors. Both companies plan to keep differentiating their range of products and services, including digital solutions.
