Daimler Trucks Sales Increased and Reached Target 2021

Mitsubishi Fuso is pleased that the Group’s sales in 2021 have increased significantly in response to the economic recovery in the car sales market.

Daimler Trucks Sales Rise in 2021

Global sales of trucks and buses in 2021 came in at 455,400 units, an increase of 20 per cent from the previous year which was 378,300 units. In addition, total sales of the Truck Asia Business Segment, including the Fuso brand, increased by 30.1 per cent year-on-year. In such a favorable development, Fuso was able to gain the top share in major overseas markets.

In Indonesia, the largest overseas market for the Fuso brand, unit sales increased 43 per cent year-on-year due to a recovery in demand throughout the market. In response to this trend, Fuso maintains the top position in the local commercial vehicle market with a 46.7 per cent share. The consistently strong sales of the light truck division supported this performance. In other Asian markets, sales were strong despite the severe economic environment of Covid-19. In Singapore, Fuso gained a 20 per cent share in the commercial vehicle sector, and in Taiwan, it gained a 33.6 per cent share, surpassing the sales performance in 2020.

In Europe, Fuso recorded a high level of sales for the first time in 10 years. The light truck division, gained the top share 37.1 per cent as in 2020. Sales of the light-duty truck “Canter” were strong due to continued demand for last mile delivery amid various regulations due to the spread of coronavirus infection. The launch of a new model of the light-duty truck “Canter” with a redesigned and improved safety function also led to further sales expansion. In New Zealand the expansion of the dealer network and the introduction of new models were a tailwind, and the market share reached the top with 19.7 per cent. In addition, Fuso introduced advanced safety equipment to all local product lineups and started selling the electric light-duty truck “eCanter“. Since Fuso New Zealand Ltd. signed a sales agency agreement with MFTBC in 2016, 2021 was a record year in terms of sales.

Orders received in the fourth quarter of 2021 were strong, with orders received in December increasing 54 per cent year-on-year. MFTBC is confident that this trend will boost the strong performance of 2022. In addition, Fuso will continue to be at the forefront of sustainability transformation through their efforts toward carbon neutrality and the continuous sales of the electric light-duty truck “eCanter“. Fuso determines to provide products and services that support all people who continue to move the world, with a view to launching new vehicles and new developments in the e-mobility field for many overseas markets.
