Scania unveils its first high-floor BEV platform at Busworld Europe, targeting inter-city, coach, school, and BRT operations worldwide.
New Scania Battery-Electric Platform the Ideal Electrification Solution
Scania has unveiled its first high-floor battery-electric bus and coach platform during the Busworld Europe 2025 exhibition in Brussels, Belgium.
The new platform extends Scania‘s electrification strategy to both the urban and travel segments, giving operators in different markets the option to shift to electric solutions. The platform is used for the company’s battery-electric coaches, which are capable of travelling up to 600 km on a single charge. With luggage capacity almost on par with that of combustion engine models, it no longer poses a problem for electrification process for operators.
With this platform, Scania is targeting applications including medium-distance inter-city routes, airport shuttles, and sports team coaches. The platform can also be re-configured to fit other applications, such as shorter inter-city routes, school transport, sightseeing buses, and urban bus rapid transit networks in Africa, Asia, or South America.
The technical package includes a tested e-machine, battery system, and charging interface, and can be paired with a variety of bodies. The e-machine delivers up to 330kW, while total energy installed reaches 534kWh. The platform supports charging at up to 325 kW (500A).
Amidst the electrification trend across the globe, Scania is also offering tailored charging and energy management solutions, including smart charging to reduce peak energy costs, alongside access to its Scania Charging Access service for heavy-vehicle.
“With the launch of the new high-floor BEV platform, Scania is not only introducing our first battery-electric coaches but also reinforcing our position as a trusted partner in the transition to sustainable transport,” said Carl-Johan Lööf, Head of Product Management for People Transport Solutions at Scania.
“We believe that the various features offered by this new platform will address coach and bus operators’ concerns about combining zero-emission operations with the needs of urban and travel assignments, making it an ideal solution for the electrification of this growing market in people transport,” he concluded.
