JPJ will suspend licenses of PSV and GDL drivers involved in crashes pending investigations. Offenders must complete a refresher course before reinstatement.
Drivers Must Pay Refresher Course Fee – JPJ’s Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will begin suspending the licenses of commercial vehicle drivers involved in crashes pending the outcome of investigations, said director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli on July 6, 2025.
The policy applies to holders of the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) and Goods Driving Licence (GDL). If an investigation finds the driver at fault, the license will be revoked.
“To ensure commercial vehicle drivers are competent, JPJ will ensure that suspended individuals must undergo and pass a refresher course before their licenses are reactivated or removed from the suspension list,” Aedy Fadly said, as quoted by the Bernama news agency.
“The refresher course will be organised by the JPJ at locations to be determined later and drivers will be charged fees to cover the cost of the course,” he added.
Currently, five commercial drivers are under suspension, including those involved in the PDRM Federal Reserve Unit lorry crash in Teluk Intan and the bus that struck a height restriction barrier in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.
Since the enforcement of the new seat belt regulation on July 1, JPJ has issued 510 compound notices to drivers and passengers of express buses, tour buses, and goods vehicles. Of these, 80 were issued to drivers, while 396 were issued to passengers and attendants.
Aedy Fadly reminded drivers that it is their responsibility to ensure passengers wear seat belts. If any passenger is found unbelted, a notice will also be issued to the driver.
