Westports Malaysia has ordered 60 Westwell E-Trucks and PowerOnair battery swap stations to support its green transformation at Port Klang.
Westports Malaysia Targets Full Electrification with Westwell Partnership
Westwell, a provider of AI-driven intelligent logistics and autonomous commercial vehicle solutions, has signed an agreement with Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd to deploy 60 of its self-developed E-Trucks at the Malaysian port terminal.
The order for the intelligent, connected, new-energy heavy-duty trucks includes the installation of Westwell‘s integrated PowerOnair battery swap stations, marking a step forward in the port operator’s green transformation.
Situated in Port Klang, Westports is Malaysia’s largest gateway container terminal and a key transhipment hub for the region. The operator is currently expanding its annual handling capacity from 14 million to 27 million TEUs and undertaking a decarbonisation effort.
As part of its decarbonisation effort, Westports has selected Westwell to provide a comprehensive fleet electrification solution, which comprises the E-Trucks, the battery swapping infrastructure, and the CSS charging management system.
The E-Trucks feature pure electric propulsion, powered by a 282 kWh high-capacity battery, which provides an operating range of 150 kilometres. Designed to navigate port terminals with zero tailpipe emissions and low noise, the vehicles utilise a direct-drive motor design and an integrated thermal management system to enhance efficiency and reduce energy consumption.

To ensure optimal uptime, the PowerOnair battery-swap stations will serve as energy hubs capable of completing a fully automated battery swap in five minutes. This system is connected to the CSS (Charging Scheduling Management System), which optimises charging sequences to reduce downtime and improve overall fleet efficiency.
Westwell and Westports began their collaboration in 2022 when the port operator commissioned the manufacturer’s Q-Truck for service. Two years later, Westwell received recognition as the “Best Automation Equipment Partner” during Westports’ 30th Anniversary Gala Dinner.
“Westwell has been our strategic partner throughout Westports’ terminal truck transformation journey. The deployment of 60 E-Trucks and smart energy solutions, coupled with its innovative technologies, will significantly enhance the terminal’s operational efficiency while reducing our carbon emission intensity,” said Datuk Ruben Emir Gnanalingam, the Executive Chairman of Westports.
“The E-Truck also supports and paves the way towards achieving our ambition of having a fully electrified expanded container terminal from CT10 to CT17, thereby marking an important milestone in our and Port Klang’s decarbonisation journey,” he added.
Westwell, through its founder and chairman, Kenny Tan, said that it is committed to bringing cutting-edge technologies to port operations, with artificial intelligence and new energy as its core.
“Through localised operational models, we have established a local maintenance team and parts centre to ensure long-term project sustainability, fully supporting the intelligent and green transformation of ports,” Tan said.
