In celebration of World Youth Skills Day, Tata Motors marked a milestone by training and certifying its first all-girls batch of tribal youth in motor mechanics under the Kaushalya Programme in Jharkhand.
Tata Motors Paves New Path for Tribal Girls in Male-Dominated Trade
The group of 13 young women, hailing from Chandil, Jamshedpur, and Potka, completed a 50-day classroom module on Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle systems, followed by a year of On-the-Job Training (OJT) at authorised workshops. The programme provided full support, including safety gear, accommodation, and a monthly stipend.
Many of these girls had faced school dropouts and financial struggles. Entering a male-dominated field posed social challenges, but Tata Motors, in partnership with Vikas Samities, addressed these through community outreach and family counselling.
Vinod Kulkarni, Head of CSR at Tata Motors, said, “This initiative reflects our commitment to empowering young women from underserved backgrounds to excel in the automotive service sector. These girls have shattered stereotypes and proven their potential.”
The Kaushalya Programme showcases how targeted CSR efforts can uplift communities and build sustainable career pathways for rural youth.
