Commuters in Western Singapore are set to enjoy an elevated public transport experience with the inauguration of the Jurong Town Hall Bus Interchange (JTHBI) on 26th November, 2023.

JTHBI to Complement Existing Jurong East MRT Station

Nestled along Venture Drive, JTHBI is strategically positioned to complement the existing Jurong East MRT station and Jurong East Bus Interchange, providing increased bus capacity to accommodate future developments in the area.

To facilitate seamless bus operations, Venture Drive will undergo an extension connecting Jurong East Street 11 with Jurong Gateway Road, slated for public use in early November. Tower Transit Singapore would manage the new bus interchange, ushering in a range of inclusive facilities designed to cater to diverse commuter needs.

JTHBI has been thoughtfully designed to enhance accessibility for all, including families with young children, seniors, and individuals with mobility challenges. Notable features include barrier-free access at entrances, a dedicated priority queue zone with seating at boarding berths, and wheelchair-accessible toilets and changing rooms. For parents, a well-equipped baby care room is available, alongside a commuter care room offering a quiet and calming space, complete with auto-sliding doors operated by touchless sensors. Audio cues in the baby care and wheelchair-accessible changing rooms add an extra layer of convenience.

In addition to amenities for commuters, JTHBI caters to the well-being of its staff, featuring dedicated toilets, a cleaner’s room, and a staff lounge. The interchange will be seamlessly connected to Jurong East MRT station and Jurong East Bus Interchange through covered linkways and a pedestrian overhead bridge equipped with lifts, ensuring a fully-sheltered route for commuters moving between these transport nodes.

A new bus service, 870, was introduced to connect residents in Tengah new town to key amenities in Jurong East Town Centre. Meanwhile, Service 78 would traverse Jurong East Centre, Bukit Batok West Avenue 3 and 6. Simultaneously, Service 160 would be amended to ply along Jurong Gateway Road and Venture Drive before terminating at JTHBI, no longer calling at Jurong East Bus Interchange. These route changes, along with the introduction of Service 870, are scheduled to take effect on 26th November, 2023.

Information on these changes were available at relevant bus stops, bus interchanges, and on the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) website.
