Scania Shows Precision of Autonomous Trucks in Red Bull Stunt

Scania autonomous truck stunt with Red Bull and PlusAI

Scania and Red Bull proved the accuracy of Scania’s autonomous trucks with a high-risk stunt powered by PlusAI’s self-driving technology.

Scania Aims to Deploy Autonomous Trucks in the Logistics Sector Soon

Scania, in collaboration with Red Bull and PlusAI, recently created a stunt that demonstrated the accuracy of its autonomous trucks.

The stunt saw Red Bull professional mountain biker, Matt Jones, jumping successfully through an opening between two Scania autonomous trucks moving towards each other in perfect sync. However, the jump is not as simple as it sounds since the opening created by the two trucks was only present for less than one second.

“This feat brought together the creativity, engineering excellence and determination of teams from Scania, Red Bull and PlusAI to turn an ‘impossible’ vision into a reality. It was meticulously planned and executed, with advanced software development, practice sessions and safety checks taking place over several months,” Scania wrote in its official statement.

Scania is currently trying to redefine safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability to create an impact within the transport industry through its autonomous solutions. The stunt with Red Bull was meant to show Scania‘s reliability when it comes to precision in autonomous transport.

“Transport is a cornerstone of our daily lives, and with that comes enormous responsibility to get goods to the right person or company in the most safe and efficient way. This challenge was a glimpse of what’s possible when breakthrough autonomous technology delivers precision and safety you can count on,” says Peter Hafmar, Head of Autonomous Solutions at Scania.

Scania has been supplying autonomous trucks for the mining industry since May 2024, and the company is not planning to stop there. Currently, Scania is working with Silicon Valley-based company, PlusAI, to soon implement its self-driving technology on the highways, enabling hub-to-hub autonomous freight transport.

By supplying autonomous trucks for the mining industry, and soon the logistics sector, Scania aims to improve efficiency and safety, reduce operational costs, minimise environmental impact, and also address the global driver shortage that has been affecting its customers.

Scania’s world-class trucks and in-house software capabilities, paired with the cutting-edge AI-based technology provided by PlusAI, are set to deliver safe, scalable and factory-built autonomous solutions for the road,” the company stated.
