Rapid Bus announces the arrival of 310 new diesel buses under a replacement program. These Euro 5 buses will replace ageing fleets in Klang Valley and Penang.
Rapid Bus Plans to Introduce Electric Buses in 2026
Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd (Rapid Bus) announced on July 14, 2025, the arrival of the final batch of diesel buses under the bus replacement program.
In total, 310 diesel buses were purchased as part of an initiative to enhance the national public transportation system. The new buses will replace older buses in stages from the end of July 2025 until the first quarter of 2026.
Prasarana’s Group Chief Operating Officer (Operations), Amir Hamdan, stated, “The arrival of this final batch is part of our strategic transition plan to ensure continued efficient and safe public transport services. While we are planning for a shift to electric buses in the future, these diesel buses are urgently needed to support our existing operational needs.”
“This initiative also replaces ageing buses that can no longer meet our current service plans, thereby improving the user experience. At the same time, we remain committed to long-term sustainability through the introduction of electric buses, scheduled to begin in 2026,” he added.
The new 12-metre buses can carry up to 60 passengers and will operate in the Klang Valley and Penang, where passenger numbers are on the rise. Later this year, Rapid Bus will also introduce 8.9-metre buses to serve more densely populated neighbourhoods.
All new buses are equipped with Euro 5 emissions standards to help Rapid Bus reduce carbon and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and contribute to cleaner urban environments. Rapid Bus has also planned to introduce electric buses starting in 2026.
