Mercedes-Benz Trucks takes a recycled-material eEconic concept to IFAT Munich 2026, developed with 31 industry and recycling sector partners.
A Truck Made from Recycled Materials to Collect Recycling
Mercedes-Benz Trucks, in collaboration with FAUN Umwelttechnik, has announced that it will showcase a concept vehicle, made partly from recycled materials, at this year’s IFAT Munich in May 2026. The company said that the vehicle is a demonstration of “a holistic approach to greater sustainability in commercial vehicle manufacturing”.
Developed together with 31 partners from industry and the recycling sector, the vehicle is based on the Mercedes-Benz eEconic, which combines established battery-electric drive technology with a production approach geared toward the circular economy. “The aim is to demonstrate how materials and industrial processes can be designed to conserve resources and close material cycles as much as possible,” Mercedes-Benz Trucks noted.
As a refuse collection truck, the concept vehicle embodies the circular economy itself, a vehicle made partly from recycled materials used to collect recycling materials. Mercedes-Benz Trucks said this project highlights how procurement and production processes can be integrated within a more comprehensive approach. The insights gained from the project will be utilised to “transfer more sustainable material and production concepts into series production.”
IFAT Munich is the world’s largest international platform for environmental technologies. This year, over 3,200 exhibitors from more than 60 countries will present their strategies and innovations for water, recycling, and circularity.
