The Mercedes-Benz eIntouro debuts in Brussels with LFP batteries, CCS fast charging, and OTA updates, marking Daimler’s first electric intercity bus.
First Units to Be Delivered in the Second Half of 2026
Daimler Buses has unveiled its first all-electric series-production inter-city bus, the Mercedes-Benz eIntouro, at Busworld Europe 2025 in Brussels, Belgium, held from October 4 to October 9.
Based on the diesel Intouro, the eIntouro adopts a battery-electric drivetrain while retaining the high-floor body. The bus is available in two lengths: the 12.18 metres that can carry 53 passengers and the 13.09 metres (eIntouro M) that can carry 60 passengers. These configurations make the eIntouro suitable for regional routes, school services, and short-distance trips. Orders have been available since spring 2025, and first deliveries are expected to be in the second half of 2026.
The eIntouro uses a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, with one or two packages each providing 207 kWh. The first pack is positioned behind the front axle for balanced weight distribution, while the optional second occupies the former engine bay at the rear. These battery systems are the same ones used in the Mercedes-Benz eActros.
Operating at 800 volts, the LFP cells allow up to 95 per cent of installed capacity to be used, supporting service lives of up to 15 years. With two battery packs, the eIntouro can cover a distance of up to 500 kilometres without recharging, depending on topography, driving style, and weather conditions.
The eIntouro can be charged using CCS Type 2 connectors at up to 400 kW (two packs) or 225 kW (one pack). Operators with Mercedes-Benz eCitaro fleets can use their current charging infrastructure if it provides at least 900 V. Customers can specify up to four socket positions (front, rear, right or left behind the front axle) with a maximum of two sockets per vehicle.
Power comes from the ZF CeTrax 2 dual CX332 central drive, delivering 320 kW of continuous power and up to 24,700 Nm of torque through an integrated three-speed automatic transmission and a Mercedes-Benz RO 440 axle.
The eIntouro is the first bus in Europe capable of receiving “over-the-air” software updates via mobile networks through the Omniplus On portal. This capability reduces workshop visits and also allows feature upgrades and optional function activations to be installed remotely.
Visually, the eIntouro closely resembles existing Intouro models, with a steep windshield, integrated radiator grille and headlamps, smooth side walls, and a body designed for easy cleaning and branding.
The passenger compartment is equipped with various seating variants and luggage shelves as well as a wide entrance with a single‑leaf door at the front and an optional single or double‑wide entrance in the middle. The 13‑metre version can also be equipped with a toilet in front of the rear entrance, and a lift on the right-hand side is optionally available for both length variants.
Meanwhile, the cockpit matches touring coach standards in both ergonomics and finish. The driving interface uses the familiar D-N-R selector and adapts eCitaro instrumentation, replacing the tachometer with a power availability display and providing clear readouts of battery charge, range, and recuperation.
For the safety system, the eIntouro can be equipped with the optional Active Brake Assist 6 (ABA 6), Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, Tire Pressure Monitoring, Attention Assist, alcohol tester interfaces, and a reversing camera with optional 360° camera and MirrorCam systems.
The Mercedes-Benz eIntouro will also be supported with a full suite of Omniplus services, including eService contracts, he digital Omniplus On Uptime pro platform for real-time vehicle monitoring, Remote Control Functions for preconditioning and battery protection, and Battery Monitoring that provides detailed health data.
