Loke: Malaysia to Continue BUDI95 Fuel Subsidy Despite Global Economic Pressures

Malaysia’s BUDI95 targeted fuel subsidy will continue, says Loke, as the government works to ease the citizens’ cost-of-living burden.

BUDI95 Subsidy Here to Stay

Transport Minister Anthony Loke has reassured the public regarding the continuation of the MADANI initiative, including the BUDI95 fuel subsidy scheme. Loke said that the government will continue the subsidy programme despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and global economic pressures.

“Initiatives like BUDI95 and FLYsiswa will be continued to lighten the burden of the people, especially those in need,” Loke said, stressing that the initiative is part of the government’s commitment to ease the cost-of-living burden on Malaysians.

Loke acknowledged that Malaysia, like many other countries in Asia, has not been immune to the economic ripple effects of the continuing conflict in the Middle East involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, which saw the Hormuz Strait becoming a chokepoint for global commodity distribution, a situation that affects the global economy as a whole.

The BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative is the Malaysian government’s targeted fuel subsidy programme for individuals, allowing eligible Malaysians, including owners of transport companies, to access RON95 petrol at a subsidised rate through their MyKad. The scheme forms part of a broader government strategy to reform fuel subsidies by directing assistance to those who genuinely need it, whilst addressing longstanding leakages in the system.

In the same announcement, Loke also revealed that the Council of Ministers had approved the construction of a new port on Carey Island, which will serve as the third port under the Port of Klang. The government said the project is aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s position as a regional trade and logistics hub and generating greater economic opportunities.

“The government will continue to work hard to ensure Malaysia remains stable, competitive, and prosperous for all,” Loke concluded.
