Mitsubishi Fuso Improves Efficiency in Parts Logistics

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation announced a major change in its aftersales logistics in Japan, with the move of the Parts Center located in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture to a new location in Sachiura, Yokohama City. An opening ceremony for the new Sachiura Parts Center was held on 30th May.

First opened in 1978, the Atsugi Parts Center has served as the backbone of MFTBC’s aftersales parts supply network. Over the past four decades, the facility has stored and provided parts to all sales and service locations within Japan. The Atsugi Parts Center has also been connected to the Daimler Truck Parts Centers in Hatten (France), Chennai (India), Dubai (UAE), as well as other overseas distribution points to service Mitsubishi Fuso’s 170 export markets. On an average day, the Parts Center warehouses around 140,000 individual parts and ships out approximately 19,000 line items per day. All operational processes were transferred to the new Sachiura Parts Center by the end of April 2023, making the new facility fully ready to continue Atsugi Parts Center’s legacy.

The new Sachiura Parts Center is located within a building designed and developed by ESR Group Limited, a leading real-estate asset manager active in the APAC region. Mitsubishi Fuso’s space in the ESR Sachiura Distribution Center 1 will cover 65,500 square meters of floor space over a 1.5 storey plan, allowing for an optimized warehouse layout and improved operational efficiencies. The Sachiura building also is a new construction that was designed in line with high environmental standards, receiving the highest rating from domestic energy efficiency certification systems. Located in close proximity to the Port of Yokohama, intercity roads, and the Kawasaki Plant, the ideally positioned Sachiura Parts Center is expected to reduce customer wait times for parts by an average of 3 days.

In addition to the relocation of the Parts Center, MFTBC has also moved its motor pools for completed, customer-ready vehicles. Previously, all vehicles for both Japanese and overseas customers had been stored in a bonded area in Higashi-Ogishima, which had a capacity of 1,500 units. With this renewal of outbound logistics within MFTBC, a section of the domestic vehicles has been moved to Sachiura, while the export vehicles have been transferred to Daikoku Futou, an area adjacent to the Port of Kawasaki. With the addition of another key logistics function at Sachiura, MFTBC aims to further encourage smoother and timelier internal processes.

These changes in logistics at MFTBC have been planned as part of a continuous effort to increase operational efficiencies throughout the entire organisation. With this new chapter in logistics management, MFTBC aims to translate improved internal operations into improved customer service and product availability, in support of all who keep the world moving.
