Shortage of chips and components continued to affect certain makes.
The total industry volume (TIV) of commercial vehicle sales was 35 per cent lower than December 2022, which was at 76,657 units, according to a statement released by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA). The reasons given were because of the short working month due to Chinese New Year festive holidays and a shortage of chips and components, which continued to affect certain makes.
New commercial sales for the month of January 2023 were down 21 per cent to 5,534 units from 6,963 units in the same month last year.
Meanwhile, total vehicle production for January rose 36 per cent over the previous year to 58,527 units. Commercial car production for January 2023 was up 10 per cent, from 3,506 units in January last year to 3,864 units.
