Swift Haulage Invests in Volvo Electric Vehicle Trucks

Swift Haulage Berhad recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Volvo Trucks Malaysia for the purchase of electric vehicle trucks, exploring the potential charging network, developing qualified human capital development and technology sharing for electro mobility in Malaysia.

The MoU marks the first step in Swift’s electro mobility journey and highlights its commitment to sustainability across all facets of the company’s business operations. The interest in integrating Volvo Electric Trucks into its fleet is seen to reflect Swift’s responsible procurement efforts that would accelerate its environmental sustainability objectives.

“It is part of Swift’s strategy to grow our business while adopting sustainable technology that could improve operational efficiency and effectiveness while reducing carbon emissions. We have therefore decided to take the leap and make the shift to electro mobility. Over the longer term, we hope to convert our whole fleet to electric trucks. We are therefore glad to have Volvo Trucks with us on our journey in making the switch,” said Loo Yong Hui, Group CEO of Swift Haulage Berhad.

Boasting Malaysia’s largest fleet of more than 1500 prime movers, he added that the company was extremely proud to also be the first to integrate EV trucks into its fleet.

Volvo Truck’s core values are quality, safety and environmental care and these have been our guiding light from the start - and they would continue to guide us into the future. The innovations and new transport solutions such as electro mobility are developed to lead the way into a sustainable future and tackle the global challenges head-on by providing our customers with the optimal transport solutions to achieve their vision and sustainability goals,” said Anthony O’Connell, Managing Director of Volvo Trucks Malaysia.

“We are very proud and excited to provide Swift Haulage with its first electric truck that meets its standards of productivity, increased safety standards and all at the same time, be better for the environment. We would not stop here and aim to provide holistic and comprehensive offers to our customers as Volvo Trucks continue to advocate partners on a larger scale and the bigger picture, which includes support such as infrastructure owners on supplying and providing sufficient charging facilities to ensure successful adoption of customised electric transport solutions,” added Anthony.
