Touch ‘n Go and Shell Malaysia launched a new cashless experience that enables customers to pay for fuels using Touch ‘n Go RFID at 88 Shell stations nationwide.

Touch ‘n Go Partnerships with Shell Malaysia

Touch ‘n Go is pleased to have so quickly been able to expand the RFID use case beyond road tolling. Customers can now make payments at Shell stations without requiring any interaction with an app on their mobile phones or engaging with a point-of-sale system as payment is made via Touch ‘n Go eWallet linked to the users’ Touch ‘n Go RFID. Touch ‘n Go is felling fortunate to have found a like-minded partner in Shell, who aligns with their ambition to provide customers with a cashless, contactless driving experience, and is helping pave the way towards delivering more innovative offerings for both sets of their customers.

Thus far, Touch ‘n Go has been focused on promoting RFID as a toll payment method, but in actuality, the combination of a RFID and eWallet infrastructure allows to expand its use case beyond tolling. Fuelling is an additional use case and Touch ‘n Go will be expanding the RFID use case into more areas as it goes on. In line with Shell Malaysia & Singapore commitment in making their customers’ daily journeys more seamless through innovative offerings, they embarked on this partnership with Touch ‘n Go to develop a new payment method that provides cashless convenience, using RFID technology, without the hassle of a mobile app. The company also went the extra mile to integrate Touch ‘n Go RFID with their loyalty partner BonusLink, allowing customers to earn loyalty points easily with each fuel purchase.

Over the last year, the company received positive response from over 10,000 pilot users, and Shell have been working closely with Touch ‘n Go to continuously optimise the technology to ensure a truly hassle-free payment experience. In order to use Touch ‘n Go RFID at Shell petrol stations, customers will need a Touch ‘n Go RFID tag linked to their Touch ‘n Go eWallet account. There is a one-time registration and activation through Touch ‘n Go eWallet. Upon successful activation, customers simply need to park their vehicles at the RFID-designated fuelling bays. Vehicles are detected within seconds, and payment will be auto-debited from the customers’ Touch n’ Go eWallets, allowing customers to proceed with refuelling their vehicle. Any unutilised amount will be immediately refunded to the customers’ Touch ‘n Go eWallet accounts.

From 10 August to 16 September 2022, Shell and Touch ‘n Go will be rewarding the first 25,000 customers who purchase fuels at Shell stations using Touch ‘n Go RFID. They would simply need to pump a minimum of RM50 on their first Touch ‘n Go RFID transaction at Shell to receive a RM10 cashback. Customers eligible for this cashback would have to be first-time users of this feature.
