MFTBC Showcases Zero Emission Technology

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) President and CEO Hartmut Schick announced that the company will participate in the Tokyo Zero-emission Innovation Bay, a council established as part of the Japanese government’s ‘Progressive Environment Innovation Strategy’.

The Zero-emission Bay was established with the aim to make the Tokyo Bay area the first zero-emission innovation hub in the world through collaborations among different locally-based companies and research institutions. With its vision to provide solutions toward the global issue of climate change, the Zero-emission Bay plans to support information exchange and collaboration among members on research, demonstrations or business development related to zero emission technologies.

MFTBC promotes zero-emissions through electrification in the commercial vehicle industry, with its vision to make all new vehicles in the Japanese market ‘tank-to-wheel’ CO2-neutral by 2039. As a pioneer of electric trucks, MFTBC launched its first series-produced all-electric light-duty truck, the eCanter, in 2017. Since then, over 200 eCanters have been running in customer hands inside and outside of Japan, with the total driving distance exceeding 3 million kilometers worldwide. In addition, MFTBC will begin the series production of fuel-cell trucks by the late 2020s, a commitment underscored by the unveiling of the light-duty fuel-cell concept truck, the eCanter F-Cell, and its driving demonstration in June 2020. As interest in shaping de-carbonized societies gains momentum within governments both inside and outside of Japan, the zero-emission eCanter as well as fuel cell trucks to be produced in the future will play a significant role in achieving carbon neutral transportation.

In support of the Zero-emission Bay mission, MFTBC will collaborate with its fellow council members in the research and development of zero-emission technologies for commercial vehicles.
