Isuzu retained its position as Malaysia’s leading truck brand in 2025, driven by strong ELF and FORWARD sales and Euro 5 expansion.
Isuzu Sold More Than 6,880 Commercial Vehicles in 2025
Isuzu has retained its position as Malaysia’s leading truck brand in 2025, underpinned by steady demand across the light- and medium-duty segments and a focus on product efficiency, emissions compliance and customer support. The Japanese manufacturer sold more than 6,880 commercial vehicles during the year, representing a 7.2 per cent increase compared with 2024.
The company continued to lead three major categories: overall truck brand for the 12th consecutive year, light-duty trucks for the 16th year, and, notably, the medium-duty truck segment. Light-duty vehicles remained the backbone of sales, with the ELF range accounting for 6,362 units, or approximately 92.5 per cent of total volume.
According to Isuzu Malaysia, its performance reflects sustained investment in product development, powertrain diversity and aftersales infrastructure. Chief Executive Officer Tomoyuki Yamaguchi said the company’s approach centres on operational efficiency and long-term value for customers rather than short-term volume growth. “The value proposition of Isuzu is about emphasising efficient transport solutions for all goods and people so as to create benefits that enrich societies,” he said.
Environmental considerations are also becoming a more prominent factor in fleet purchasing decisions. Yamaguchi noted that a growing number of customers are aligning their operations with environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles. In response, Isuzu is advancing its carbon-neutral roadmap and expanding its Euro 5-compliant product portfolio. “We are resolute in our carbon-neutral strategy roadmap and advancing our products with cleaner emission standards,” he said, adding that additional Euro 5 models are scheduled for introduction in 2026.
One of the most significant developments in 2025 was Isuzu’s expansion in the medium-duty segment. Sales of the FORWARD range reached 494 units, a 63.6 per cent increase year on year, enabling the brand to take market leadership in this category. The availability of the Euro 5 FVR model equipped with a six-speed Smoother Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) has contributed to this growth, particularly among operators seeking fuel efficiency and lower emissions without compromising payload capacity.
The Smoother AMT, which uses electronic controls and hydraulic systems to manage clutch and gear changes, has also helped reduce maintenance costs by eliminating clutch wear. This has become an important consideration for fleet operators managing total cost of ownership amid rising operating expenses.
Beyond sales, Isuzu reached a production milestone in 2025, surpassing 100,000 units of locally assembled ELF and FORWARD trucks at its Pekan plant in Pahang. The facility, operated by Isuzu Hicom Malaysia since 2007, plays a strategic role in supporting domestic demand and reinforcing Malaysia’s position within Isuzu’s regional manufacturing network.
