MAA Expects Lower Sales Volume in November
Malaysia Automotive Association (MAA) has just released the sales data for October 2020 and based on the data, total vehicle sales have increased by 5.2 per cent, from 53,870 units October last year to 56,670 units compared to October 2019.
Of the 56,670 units, commercial vehicles sales accounted for 4,875, which represents a minute drop from 4,883 units in the previous year.
According to MAA, for the first 10 months of the year, the vehicle sales dropped by 20 per cent to 398,159 units from 496,855 in the same period last year. Diving into the data further, we see that sales for commercial vehicle decreased by 17 per cent from 43,749 units in 2019 to 36,356.
In terms of total production, the MAA said 58,631 vehicles were produced in October 2020 compared with 55,775 units in the same month a year earlier. The production of commercial vehicles slightly decreased to 3,568 units in October 2020 from 3,584 units in the same month last year.
For the first 10 months of the year, the total vehicle production was down by 22 per cent to 374,494 units from 481,428 units in 2019 with total production for commercial vehicle diving by 37 per cent from 31,275 units in 2019 to 19, 550.
On the outlook for November 2020, the Association expected the sales volume to be lower than October 2020 level. This, it said, is due to the impact of a full month implementation of conditional movement control order (CMCO) in Peninsular Malaysia, except for Perlis, Pahang and Kuantan, which resulted in reduction traffic volume to automotive showrooms.
