Sun Bus Tech Sdn Bhd has launched its inaugural Hearing Conservation Training Workshop in February, held at its facility in Senai, Johor, marking the beginning of the company’s annual commitment to workplace safety and health excellence in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health (Noise Exposure) Regulations 2019.
Sun Bus Tech Targets Zero Workplace Fatalities with Enhanced Safety Culture
A total of thirty employees were selected to participate in the programme due to their regular exposure to a high-noise work environment. They attended a workshop that utilised a two-part methodology combining theoretical instruction with practical field application.
Participants were first introduced to the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the five levels of safety control measures, alongside technical topics such as noise types and personal protective equipment. The second session involved hands-on site inspections where staff used noise level meters to identify and record readings across various operational zones based on initial noise risk assessments.
In line with the company’s principle that safety is a shared responsibility rather than a mere compliance requirement, the training encouraged employees to actively report unsafe acts. Sun Bus Tech reinforces these messages through regular toolbox briefings and leadership support. The long-term objective of these sessions is to foster a culture of ownership that can eventually achieve a milestone of zero workplace fatalities.
“Your safety is my safety, and my safety is your safety. Workplace safety is not the responsibility of the Safety Officer alone; it requires everyone’s participation. When we build a shared mindset and commitment, we create a stronger and safer working environment for all,” a workshop participant told Truck & Bus News when asked about the programme.
In the future, Sun Bus Tech intends to enhance these annual sessions by introducing more advanced practical modules and encouraging broader employee participation.
