Geotab report details a 40% decrease in traffic violations and 20% fuel reduction through optimised driver behaviour and AI fleet data.

Connected Vehicle Data Combats Fuel Volatility for Global Fleets

Fleet telematics provider Geotab has recently published its fifth annual Sustainability and Impact Report, revealing how global organisations are increasingly utilising connected vehicle data to combat rising fuel prices and energy volatility. The findings highlight that businesses leveraging data-driven strategies have successfully reduced idling by up to 30 per cent, lowered fuel waste, and decreased collision rates while accelerating their electrification processes.

Neil Cawse, Founder and CEO of Geotab, described fuel volatility as a reminder that sustainability functions as a business strategy. “When integrated with a pragmatic focus on short-term value, sustainability measures can drive both efficiency and profitability. Every operational improvement is an immediate, measurable step toward resilience and growth,” he explained.

The report details several case studies across Europe and the United States where fleet data translated into measurable environmental and financial outcomes. In total, throughout 2025, Geotab-connected electric vehicles travelled more than 1.4 kilometres.

In the United Kingdom, construction firm Tarmac reduced idling by 30 per cent within three months, achieved 25 per cent improved fuel economy, and cut speeding violations by 50 per cent. In Belgium, bPost SA saved €1.6 million in fuel costs, equivalent to 1 million litres of diesel, by using Geotab‘s EV data to right-size its 10,000-van fleet and optimise charging schedules. Autolinee Federico from the public transit sector in Italy reported a 20 per cent fuel reduction and around 40 per cent decrease in traffic violations and fines through driving behaviour optimisation and tachograph compliance.

From the United States, Richards Building Supply projected more than $195,000 in annual savings from a 90-day pilot with Geotab Vitality, with a 41 per cent improvement in safe driving behaviour and an 8 per cent reduction in collision risk. Meanwhile, the City of Carmel received the 2025 Geotab Innovation Award Winner for Sustainability award for using a custom dashboard to validate emissions reductions from a biodiesel fuel pilot programme.

Cawse emphasised that Geotab‘s primary contribution to sustainability is helping the industry optimise operations through data and artificial intelligence. “Sustainability is a collective effort, so we must also hold ourselves accountable. This report highlights both the progress of our customers and the steps we are taking as a company to reduce our own impact,” added Cawse.
