VTAREC Road Safety Forum Draws Transport Industry Support

The Johor Transport & Logistics Operators’ Association (JoTran) and the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Truck Association (Sekita) were among the industry representatives who attended the VTAREC Road Safety Forum, held on March 12, 2026, at MNRB Holdings Berhad in Kuala Lumpur, organised by the Vehicle Theft and Accident Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTAREC).

The forum, themed “No Mobile Phones While Driving” and carried under the campaign tagline “Driving Requires Brain, Not Phone”, brought together enforcement authorities, academics, technology experts, and transport industry stakeholders to address the risk of mobile phone distraction while driving.

JoTran said it was honoured to be invited to the forum. Its representative was amongst those invited to sign the Road Safety Pledge during the occasion, a gesture that the association described as a reaffirmation of the industry’s collective responsibility in promoting safer driving behaviour. JoTran added that it remained committed to working closely with regulators, enforcement agencies, and industry partners to strengthen road safety culture and reduce accident risks within the sector.

Sekita similarly expressed its support for the forum’s objectives, particularly as they related to the commercial transport sector. The association commended VTAREC and the Ministry of Transport (MOT) for bringing together a wide range of stakeholders and pledged its backing for initiatives promoting stricter enforcement, awareness campaigns, and responsible driving practices among all road users.

The forum itself featured four panellists from enforcement, public health, technology, and policing backgrounds, covering topics ranging from corporate responsibility in managing driver behaviour to the role of families in guiding young drivers. VTAREC also launched the VTAREC Challenge during the event, an initiative inviting participants to make a tangible commitment to road safety.

The forum was inaugurated by VTAREC Chairman Datuk Lokman Jamaan, who highlighted the human and societal cost of road accidents and stressed that safe driving is a personal responsibility as much as a regulatory obligation. To amplify the issue and  awareness on social media, the forum also launched the #Think.DontText.Drive.Repeat hashtag.
