The MAN TGX 41.640 delivers 640 hp and 3,000 Nm of torque, designed to haul wind turbines, transformers, and loads of up to 250 tonnes.
From Wind Turbines to Submarines, MAN’s New TGX 41.640 Tackles the Heaviest Hauls
MAN Truck & Bus has officially launched the premier-class TGX 41.640 8×4/4, a four-axle tractor head rated for a gross vehicle weight of 250 tonnes. Capable of hauling wind turbine components, high-voltage transformers, and entire submarines, the new model signals MAN‘s comeback to the most demanding end of the heavy haulage segment.
Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member for Sales & Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus, unveiled the vehicle before approximately 80 international heavy-duty transport specialists.
“With our new 250-ton tractor unit, we are returning to the supreme discipline of heavy-duty transport. Thanks to MAN Individual‘s expertise, we are offering our customers a highly specialised vehicle that combines maximum performance, reliability and economy in one package. In doing so, we are once again sending out a strong signal to simplify our customers’ business,” Baumann said during the unveiling.
The TGX 41.640 is powered by a MAN D3876 inline six-cylinder engine, capable of producing 640 hp and 3,000 N⋅m of torque, and available across a broad rev range of 900 to 1,380 rpm, making it well-suited to moving massive loads at low speeds.
The engine is paired with an automated MAN TipMatic 12.30 OD gearbox featuring an integrated torque converter clutch, which enables low-wear starting with up to 1.59 times torque multiplication and precise low-speed manoeuvring. A Retarder 40 system provides sustained braking performance and thermal stability. Two dedicated TipMatic operating programmes are included: a Heavy Transport mode for loads up to 250 tonnes and an Efficiency mode for loads up to 70 tonnes, prioritising fuel economy.

The tractor head is developed and produced as a complete factory solution under MAN Individual. The four-axle base vehicle is built at MAN‘s Munich plant before being transferred to the MAN Truck Modification Center in Wittlich, where it receives heavy-duty couplings, reinforced cooling systems, and enlarged diesel and hydraulic tanks.
A heavy-duty tower mounted behind the cab houses four pressure tanks providing 160 litres of additional air supply, a 960-litre diesel tank, and a 290-litre tank serving a two-stage heavy-duty hydraulic system capable of delivering pressures of up to 300 bar. The hydraulics operate independently of load, supplying 20 or 40 litres per minute to support the steering systems of trailers with 30 or more axles. A heavy-duty transport cooler within the same structure maintains stable engine temperatures even at low speeds under full load.
Coupling provisions include a JOST JSK 38 C fifth wheel (3.5″) with an 800 mm shifting device as standard, a front register coupling with three height settings for push-pull operations, and an optional ROCKINGER 56 EA rear coupling with automatic locking for use on uneven terrains.
MAN said the TGX 41.640 carries the same after-sales, warranty, and financing provisions as MAN‘s standard series vehicles. Available support packages include MAN Service Contracts, Extended Warranty, and the Uptime Guarantee, complemented by digital services such as Perform, Compliant M, Timed, and ServiceCare.
MAN Financial Services offers hire purchase and insurance options tailored to heavy-duty customers, backed by a global service network spanning around 1,670 locations across more than 140 countries.
An optional MAN Individual Lion S equipment package is available for operators who wish to personalise the vehicle, featuring carbon applications, black aerodomes, red accents, and high-quality interior details such as Alcantara seat covers, decorative stitching, and red seat belts. A 24-inch television and an electrically adjustable recliner are also available.
With the launch of the TGX 41.640, MAN extends its commercial vehicle coverage from 3.5 to 250 tonnes, spanning the TGE, TGL, TGM, TGS, and TGX model ranges, with fully electric options available from 12 to 42 tonnes on request.
