Scania Malaysia Expands Sustainable Bus Lineup with Super Powertrain Update and PHEV System

Scania Malaysia has announced the arrival of two new bus and coach powertrain options, offering operators a choice between an enhanced combustion solution and a plug-in hybrid system as the company pushes further into sustainable transport.

The first is an updated version of Scania‘s Super powertrain, which the company says delivers up to 7 per cent savings in both fuel consumption and emissions compared to the previous generations. It also comes with improved torque and greater operational flexibility. The Super powertrain has previously received industry recognition, with Scania positioning it as a solution for operators seeking improved efficiency without departing from conventional powertrains.

The second option is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain capable of delivering up to 40 per cent fuel and emissions savings. With an electric-only range of up to 80 km, the PHEV system is designed for routes where silent, zero-emission operation is required for part of the journey, while the combustion engine handles longer distances. Scania said the powertrain offers lower operational costs alongside the flexibility to meet sustainability targets.

Both powertrains are available now for bus and coach applications in Malaysia.
