The Federal Government allocates RM21.86m for BAS.MY Kota Bharu, introducing electric midi buses and an RM30 unlimited travel pass.

A New Era for Public Transport in Kelantan

Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke officially inaugurated the BAS.MY Kota Bharu service during a working visit to Kelantan on January 29, 2026.

The inauguration marks a significant upgrade to the state’s public transportation network with the Federal Government committing to spending RM21.86 million annually to support the service, which is part of the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) programme.

According to Loke, the BAS.MY service in the Kota Bharu operation is managed by Konsortium e-Mutiara, a Kelantan-based company appointed by the Ministry of Transport. The network covers 11 Local Authority (PBT) areas and utilises a fleet of 64 buses, including eight midi electric buses, 24 low-floor mini buses, and 32 standard mini buses.

The Ministry of Transport stated that BAS.MY‘s presence in Kota Bharu is a manifestation of the MADANI Solidarity Government’s commitment to empowering a more modern, inclusive, and sustainable public transport system.

To ensure affordability and accessibility for the public, the service offers unlimited travel passes for as low as RM30 per month. The Ministry also noted that the initiative aims to expand mobility access for urban and rural citizens while improving the safety and comfort of passengers.

Speaking at the launch event, Loke expressed his hope that BAS.MY would be the preferred choice for local citizens to travel.

“Now under SBST or BAS.MY Kota Bharu, the government introduces new pink buses that are comfortable for users. It is hoped that the residents of Kota Bharu and the state of Kelantan in general will make BAS.MY their main choice of transport for work, college, school, and focal centres,” Loke said.
