NovaAir Becomes Malaysia’s First to Operate Scania Super ADR Trucks

NovaAir fleet adopts Scania Super ADR safety technology

NovaAir adopts Malaysia’s first Scania Super ADR fleet, combining advanced safety, Euro 5 efficiency, and Scania’s digital services for bulk transport operations.

Scania Super ADR: Safe, Compliant, Fuel-Efficient, and Environmentally Friendly

NovaAir Industrial Gases Sdn Bhd (NovaAir) has become the first company in Malaysia to operate Scania Super trucks for Bulk ADR Transport, equipped with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

During the handover ceremony, Charlene Quek, the Managing Director of NovaAir, said, “We’re honoured to be the first to operate the Scania Super trucks for bulk ADR transport, which meets ADR safety standards and features Advanced Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Vulnerable Road User Collision Warning – Side (VRUCW-S), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), and side curtain airbags.”

“These advanced safety features not only make our deliveries safer and more secure, but also reinforce our commitment to protecting lives and reducing operational risks. Setting new standards in sustainable transportation systems, these trucks are Euro 5 with low carbon emissions,” she added.

Aside from the safety features, the Scania Super P420A6X2NA chassis also meets Flammable Liquid (FL) vehicle type requirements. It includes a speed limiter, exhaust heat cover, instrument panel controls, hill hold, and an insulated ADR electrical system. The truck is also equipped with an electric on/off button for the battery master switch on both the panel and chassis, providing a two-step safety activation process that disconnects power to the vehicle, except for the alarm system.

Beyond safety and compliance, the Scania Super trucks are engineered to be fuel-efficient and environmentally sustainable. The advanced powertrain and aerodynamic design help reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by up to 8 per cent. Meanwhile, the air suspension provides the driver with comfort and reduces fatigue. Combined with the Electronic Level Control function, the vehicle’s height can be adjusted to facilitate loading and unloading, handling a swap body, or connecting a tanker.

“Operating a Bulk ADR Transport vehicle requires a reliable system to monitor performance and provide the driver with real-time guidance. Through Scania’s Repair and Maintenance Contract, NovaAir Industrial Gases will gain access to the full suite of Scania Digital Services,” said Phang Yee Fong, Dealer Director of Central Region at Scania Southeast Asia.

“With Scania Fleet Management System Control Package, NovaAir Industrial Gases will receive valuable insights into their vehicles, including real-time positioning, vehicle performance, CO₂ emissions, service planning, defect reporting, and driver evaluation. These insights enable them to identify opportunities for improvement,” added Phang.

For NovaAir’s drivers, the Scania Driver app allows them to perform pre-departure checks, track driving time and performance, view service bookings, and locate the nearest Scania workshop. By using the Scania ProDriver, the drivers can also learn more about fuel-efficient driving habits.

“The Scania Super trucks will be maintained by Scania’s trained workshop crews, ensuring maximum uptime for NovaAir Industrial Gases. They will also have access to 14 workshops across Malaysia and Singapore, together with 24/7 Scania Assistance,” Ahmad Azim Abas, Services Sales Executive of Scania Malaysia, concluded.
