 Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Celebrates Production of 25, 00
 Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has all the reasons to cel- ebrate as its production plant in Pekan achieved another milestone by rolling out the 25,000th locally assembled Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle. The white cabbed, 10-wheel 6x2 Actros 2640LS was the star of the day.
Speaking at the Pekan production plant, Mercedes-Benz Ma- laysia (MBM) Vice President, Commercial Vehicles, Albert Yee said: “Marking the 25,000th Commercial Vehicle is certainly a landmark moment for us at Pekan. To us, it demonstrates how Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles and our production facilities have continued to be a hallmark of premium quality. As a first-class product, Mercedes-Benz trucks represent reli- ability and cost-efficiency that comes with a service quality of comprehensive expertise. Ultimately, Mercedes-Benz deliv- ers trucks you can trust.”
Even though the 25,000th truck was produced at the Pekan plant, Yee clarified that it was not the 25,000th vehicle to roll out of the plant as the company had been operating in Malay- sia since 1964.
The opportunity to visit the plant was an eye-opener. As one of the nine Daimler CKD commercial vehicle production facili- ties worldwide, the Pekan production plant continues the com- pany’s 100-year legacy that comes with a Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle. MBM has invested RM28 million (only for the commercial vehicle line) since operations began in 2004.
Occupying 19,000 square metres, the production line is oper- ated by 176 employees and has a current capacity of 4,000 units per year. According to Vice President, Production Plant Ingbert Grombach, it took 6 days to assemble 1 truck and the plant operated 5 days a week, 8 hours per day.
The commercial vehicle production line differs from that for passenger vehicles. With shorter and wider space to accom- modate the size of commercial vehicles, the production pro- cess has 5 stations. Work begins with the Frame Assembly and moves on to Cab Painting, where Grombach said unlike the passenger car where they had to follow strictly the colour of the car that was designed and decided by the management in Germany, commercial vehicle customers could choose whatever colours that they liked.
Following Cab Painting is the Assembly line in which more than 1,850 individual parts are put together, forming the in- terior, chassis and all of its safety features. To ensure utmost quality and standard, commercial vehicles are sent to the Testing Line that consists of 7 quality gates with specific tests such as brake test, side slip, turning angle, shower test, to name a few. And finally for completion are the inspection and Buyoff line.

马赛地马来西亚商用车副总裁茹海成表示:“北根组装厂的 第25,000辆商用车正式下线,标志着一个意义非凡的里程 碑。对我们来说,它展示了马赛地商用车和我们的生产设施 如何持续成为优质品质的标志。作为一流产品,马赛地卡车 代表着可靠性和成本效益,伴随着全面专业知识的服务品 质。最终,马赛地为您提供您可信赖的卡车。”
虽然这第25,000辆卡车是在北根工厂组装,茹海成解释说这 不是该工厂所组装的第25,000辆卡车,因为该公司早在1964 年起,就已经开始在马来西亚营运。
能够参观该工厂让人大开眼界。北根组装厂是戴姆勒在全球 全散装件(CKD)商用车的第9个汽车生产设施。北根制造厂 持续马赛地商用车的百年制造车工艺精髓。自2004年开始运 作以来,该公司投资了2800万令吉(仅仅只是商用车生产 线)。
面积为19,000平方米的生产线,由176名员工负责操作,每 年的产能为4,000辆。据北根马赛地组装厂副总裁格鲁巴 (Ingbert Grombach)指出,组装一部卡车需要6天的时间, 该厂每星期工作5天,每天8小时。
