 SPECIAL FEATURE : IAA 2014
Valeo showcased its latest headlamps, which had recently entered series production for truck and light truck custom- ers, at the 2014 IAA International Commercial Vehicles Show in Hannover, Germany.
Valeo’s FullLED headlamp comprises LED (light emitting diodes) modules performing high and low beam functions, an LED high- way function that is automatically activated above a certain speed and an LED cornering light for easy manoeuvring in the dark. An example of Valeo’s FullLED technology developed for the Cadillac Escalade SUV was on display at the Valeo stand.
Additionally, Valeo also displayed the Renault Truck heavy duty range headlamp that included an 8-LED Front Turn Indicator and a 10-LED Lateral Turn Indicator with micro-optics; the Volvo Truck Medium Duty range headlamp with its iconic V-shaped LED day- time running lamp (DRL) as well as the LED version of the best- selling Super Oscar: the Super Oscar LED outputs 1200 lumens, combining a very long range (500m) LED wide bead and an LED position lamp.
LED front signalling, turn indicator and daytime running lamps provide not only enhanced lighting for improved safety but also brand sig- nature, adding value in innovative appearance and styling versatility.
Valeo’s LED based lighting solutions, said the company, provided various benefits in comparison with halogen bulbs. They offered high performance for driver safety and were maintenance-free (no need for bulb replacement). The colour temperature of LED white beams was similar to that of daylight, providing maximum visibil- ity in all conditions. The FullLED headlamps matched the perfor- mance of xenon, with just half the energy consumption – a mere 20W. They could reduce CO2 emissions by up to 3.5g/km because of the benefits in weight and energy efficiency. Lastly, the virtually infinite design freedom of LED allowed vehicle differentiation.
