development training are unlikely to have a crash than those who have not. Thus, driver training can significantly reduce a driver’s crash risk,” commented Najeeb.
Today, road accidents have slowly become the world’s no. 1 killer and left millions incapacitated. In Malaysia, according to Najeeb, the road accident statistics revealed these horrendous facts: 400,000 reported accidents annually; an average of 6,000 deaths per year; RM9 billion in economic losses; the reason behind 45 per cent of people seeking medical treatment as well as the cause of death for 75 per cent of people below 40 years of age.
“Licensing is a good endeavour to start with but in the long run it’s just a mere formality. Therefore, road users, especially those who drive for a living, need continuous development and competency in both psychomotor and cognitive skills as well as to shape their best attitudes on the road.”
Having graduated from Universiti Institut Teknologi Mara (UITM) with an Advance Diploma in Business Administration majoring in Transportation, Najeeb is a Chartered Member of The Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistic United Kingdom. He is also a qualified defensive and advance driver and trainer, holding a Diploma in Advance Driving Trainer from The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accident (RoSPA), United Kingdom, as well as being a registered and qualified Malaysian novice driver trainer (SM2). Najeeb is assisted by Atan, who is an ex-sergeant of the Malaysian Armed Forces. Atan had serve 19 years with the 4th Regiment Royal Armour as transport officer and specialised in managing and maintaining regiment fighting and non-fighting vehicles. He had gathered vast and extensive experience as a Road Safety and Driver’s trainer during his attachment with vari- ous logistic companies. He is also a qualified vehicle and main- tenance trainer and had received further driver’s training from RoSPA, United Kingdom.
With their extensive experience and qualifications in the land transport safety, they have move further ahead since starting KPX. “Many companies do not see the importance of driver training as the majority sees training as a cost rather than an investment. For us, it is an investment that helps a company to save cost in the long run as it increases productivity and efficiency by reduc- ing accident rates and insurance claims. Our first client is Unilever Malaysia, a multinational consumer goods company, and it has stayed with us till today, as KPX trains its drivers and staff that drive their own vehicles.”
Over the years, the company has grown. Despite the severe com- petition, KPX has earned its reputation and recognition by provid- ing quality training and services to the industry. With the effective spread by word of mouth, KPX had added more companies such as Lafarge Malaysia, Bintang Group, Petronas Carigali, among others, to its portfolio. Najeeb said that the strong support from the local SMEs had been a key factor in helping KPX grow.
“Apart from the private sector, we work closely with the govern- ment. The Road Transport Department (RTD) has awarded us a contract to produce a new driving curriculum for passenger cars, which is aimed at reducing the number of accidents in the country. The new curriculum will assess learner drivers on their attitude and behaviour on the road. It is more comprehensive and promotes cognitive and psychomotor skills. We also help to train relevant personnel from the Malaysian Prison Department to safely trans- port the prisoners.”
