The New Volvo FH16 Makes its Debut at IAA
The new Volvo FH 16, which Volvo claimed will set new standards in the long-haul industry, was officially unveiled at the IAA show in front of the eagerly awaiting visitors.
“The Volvo FH16 offers you the best power, the best driveability and the best fuel efficiency in its class. With its excellent comfort and powerful engines, it is the obvious choice for operators and truck drivers also de- mand productivity and a driving ex- perience beyond the ordinary, ”said Christer Pehrsson, Business Area Manager for the long-haul transport
segment at Volvo Trucks.
For heavy haulage and long-distance operations that of- ten cover hilly ter- rain, the new FH16 can be equipped with the Volvo’s truck most power- ful engines that produces 750hp. High torque from low revs reduces
the number of gear changes and saves fuel. The Euro 6 engine will be available from spring 2013, and the new I-Torque driveline will be introduced in autumn 2013 for the European market.
I-See, a new software package for the I-Shift transmission, memoris- es road data and automatically op- timises gear shifting and speed to the topography. Working together with the I-Tourque driveline, I-See and other hardware updates cut fuel consumption by up to 10 per cent.
Apart from excellent performance, it also provides upgraded comfort. The cab is optimised both as a workplace and overnight accom- modation. Its new design provides the driver with perfect visibility from inside the cab. Slimmer mirrors and stronger headlights further im- prove safety. The list of active safe- ty systems has been updated with two innovative brakes. And should an accident occur, you’re well pro- tected. The new cabs have passed the toughest cab impact tests in the world.
