Fire Safety Seminar and School Bus Safety Conference
 In today’s world, millions of students rely on school buses to transport them to and from school, including China. Guangdong Prov- ince of China has the highest rate of school bus purchase and utilisation when compared to other provinces, leading the country’s school transportation industry. Thus, the problems and challenges that are faced by the school bus transportation in Guangdong Province are a reflection of the other provinces as well.
To enhance school bus safety and efficiency, Busworld Asia 2012 organised a Fire Safety Seminar on the 21st November and a School Bus Safety Conference on the 23rd Novem- ber 2012 in conjunction with their exhibition.
Even though fire safety in buses and coaches is an important factor to the overall safety, it does not always get the attention it deserves. Fires in buses and coaches tend to spread very quickly, which makes them extremely dangerous and therefore an important cause of vehicle losses as well as human casuali- ties and fatalities on a worldwide basis.
In order to create a worldwide knowledge platform about safety in buses, coaches and school buses, Busworld and B.A.A.V brought together fire safety expects in different fields including Michael Hagen, Dominiek Viaene, Dick Fischer and Peter Lawrence to share their knowledge during the seminar.
Meanwhile, speakers at the School Bus Safe- ty Conference shared numerous ideas and resources for enhancing school bus service and training, from routing strategies to inno- vative facilities.
NAPT President Alexandra Robinson, pre- sented an overview of the country’s school bus industry, and the initiatives of NAPT members. Robinson, who is also the Execu- tive Director for the Office of Pupil Transpor- tation for the New York City Department of Education, the largest school district in the U.S. also shared the safety features of the American yellow school bus, which are highly regulated by the federal or individual govern- ments - the cross-view mirrors, stringently trained drivers, stop-arm signs and school bus body specifications and height as well as

今 广东省是中国校车采购和应用最多 的省份,在学校运输方面走在全国 前列。因此,广东省学校运输方面 所面对的问题和挑战,也反映了其 他省份的问题。
为了加强校车的安全和效率,2012 年世界客车博览亚洲展览会于去年 展会期间,也就是在分别于11月21 日和11月23日主办了一个消防安全 研讨会和国际校车论坛。
即使公车和客车的消防安全是整体 安全的一个重要因素,却没有获得 应有的重视。公车和客车一旦着 火,就会迅速地蔓延,使它们变得 极端危险,而这正是在全球造成车 子损失和人类伤亡的重要原因!
为了创建一个全球公车、客车及校 车的安全知识平台,世界客车博览 与B.A.A.V.将来自不同领域的消 防安全专家集合在一起,其中包 括哈恩(Michael Hagen)、维安 (Dominiek Viaene)、菲舍尔 (Dick Fischer)及罗伦斯(Pe- ter Lawrence)在研讨会上分享有 关的知识。
校车安全论坛的演讲嘉宾则分享有 关加强校车服务及训练,从路线规 划到创新设备的概念与资源。
NAPT主席罗宾逊(Alexandra Rob- inson),也是美国最大学区--纽 约市教育局学生交通办事处执行总 监的她,在国际校车安全论坛中分 享美国校车行业的概观和NAPT会员 的倡议。她也特别提及受美国联邦 政府或个别政府所高度管制的美国 黄色校车的安全特点—凸面照地镜 (cross-view mirror)、严格培训 的司机、stop-arm signs及校车车 身规格与高度,以及采用校车可减 少从家里往返学校的车子数量,协 助降低交通拥挤和废气排放。
她也强调黄色校车就是进入学 习。“对许多人来说,学校的一天 就是从孩子们上黄色校车开始到下 黄色校车结束。这里最为明显的就 是学习不会停止,一直到学生在下 午时分向他们的校车司机说再见。 无需彻底的分析就可以看到一旦您 的孩子上了校车,他们到学校上课 的可能性远比采用其他的方式上学 来得高。乘搭校车降低逃学,提高 了学生在学校的良好学习。如果一 半的战斗已经开始,黄色校车则协 助我们在这个战斗中胜出。”
