The 12th Busworld Asia, which opened from November 22nd to 24th at Guangzhou Canton Fair Complex, successfully attracted 3,000 Chinese and international guests, and further raised the subject of the safety of school buses among the local manufacturers.
With over 40 years of bus & coach exhibitions, Busworld has a proud history that started with the very first Busworld Europe Kortrijk show in 1971. Busworld founder, Luc Glorieux, and B.A.A.V has since built up the biggest and most successful bus and couch platform worldwide.
Busworld Asia was co-introduced in China by VNU Exhibitions Asia in 2001. After years of bringing together the Chinese and international bus and coach industry to present the latest products and innovations, Bus- world has decided for the first time in its 12-year history to take a new venture by moving from Shanghai to Guanzhou to cooperate with Auto Guangzhou- the third largest auto show in China.
With the slogan “Busworld Cares for Children”, Busword Asia 2012 or- ganised a School Bus Day on 23rd November 2012 with an international jury and BAAV School Bus award ceremony, a fire safety seminar and a highly professional School Bus Conference with international speakers. According to Luc Glorieux, due to the worldwide problem of school bus accidents taking place and resulting in young casualties and fatalities, Busworld decided to take the matter to heart by putting safe school transportation high up on the agenda of each future Busworld exhibi- tion, starting from the Busworld Asia in Guangzhou.
“After a head-on crash in November 2011 involving a truck and a school bus packed with 62 students, ages 5 and 6, in which 21 of the students, the school van driver and an adult chaperone were killed whilst 41 stu- dents were seriously injured, China began implementing new regula- tions to mandate seat belts and black boxes in school buses that are now printed yellow like the Americans. However, Chinese school buses are not constructed to U.S. federal standards. Safe school transporta- tion is still a highly sensitive and important subject to the public. In May 2012, China implemented new legislation regarding the minimum tech- nical requirements for school buses,” Glorieux explained.
Taking the centre stage in the 9,900sqm open display area were the different brands of school buses. Yutong displayed a new school bus model that is only for drivers that have obtained their B license, Higer showcased three school buses that were equipped with GBOS intel- ligent operation systems, and Golden Dragon proudly highlighted its XML6901 Snow Fox, which they claimed is a well-received model in the South Asian market. Dongfeng also presented two new long-nosed school buses. Apart from school buses, these companies also took the opportunity to display their latest series of city buses, coaches, high-end commercial vehicles, etc.
Owing to recent environmental protection and energy efficiency con- cerns, there is a rise in the number of new-energy vehicles in the world. This trend was clearly reflected in the Busworld Asia 2012 exhibition where one could see the display of various brands of new energy ve- hicles.
