Lafarge Malaysia - First in Industry to be ISO Certified
Lafarge Malaysia is the first in the industry to receive the ISO 39001 certification for road traffic safety management. The ISO 39001 sets out the requirements for a road traffic safety management system to reduce incidences and risk of serious injuries related to road traffic accidents.
The company’s emphasis on road safety started in 2005 and it was the first in the industry to introduce a GPS system in its cement trucks. The GPS is used to track driver behaviour, vehicle safety and load. This vital and life-saving system ensures the safety of drivers, road users and the community, deemed a critical necessity in view that the com- pany’s 1,500 contracted trucks travel more than 120,000km per day around Malaysia.
Lafarge also held its 12th Drivers’ Safety Day, an annual get-together for the company’s transport- ers, on 14th August, 2016. The safety day was aimed at rewarding its cement truck drivers with the best safety behaviour and educating stake- holders on the importance of road safety.
Twelve transporters participated in the safety day’s booth exhibition, showcasing their products and services with more than 1,000 participants attend- ing the event.
The Drivers’ Safety Day also saw Lafarge’s inau- gural Truck Driving Competition, organised in col- laboration with Volvo Trucks Malaysia. According to Competition Director Muhd Nizam, this event was aimed at developing fully competent drivers on the aspects of technical skills and safe driving behaviour.
The competition saw participation by 23 drivers from the central, northern and southern regions and the finalists competed in the ultimate round on the Driver’s Safety Day.
