“SMRT Corporation Ltd, the leading multi-modal public transport opera- tor in Singapore, has put one new Lion’s City double-decker bus on trial and evaluation for one year starting from November last year. Having tested close to one year, MAN has been awarded with an order of 20 units from SMRT and 60 units from Land Transport Ministry (LTA) of Singapore,” said Uslu.
In Hong Kong, Uslu continued, an open-top MAN A95 was delivered to a private operator Sun Fai Transportation Company early this year. In addition, a franchised bus company Kowloon Motor Bus ordered 20 units, which would be delivered in 2016. Another company, Koon Chung Bus Holding Limited, ordered 50 units. He added that by 2017, the Euro 6 version would be available for the market.
“Australia is an interesting and growing completely built-up (CBU) mar- ket for us. We are not yet present in South Korea and we do have plans to enter this market. Asia is important for us to achieve our total volume.”
Gearing Up for Front-Engine Omnibus Chassis Segment
Mueller revealed that MTBM was gearing up for the front-engine om- nibus chassis segment in Malaysia. “This is a new market segment for us. In September, we delivered our first front-engine omnibus chassis to our customer in East Malaysia. The MAN CLA chassis is the first bus chassis produced by MAN in India, keeping in mind the requirements of developing markets like Malaysia. All main aggregates and components are identical with the currently-sold and proven CLA truck range and are incorporated into the MAN CLA bus chassis. MAN uses the same global standards at all our manufacturing facilities worldwide to ensure uncompromising quality.”
The chassis was designed with high levels of serviceability and all es- sential parts were easily accessible and serviceable. Logical packing of aggregates, said Mueller, freed up lots of space and ensured better reparability.
MAN’s TCO Optimiser Helps Convince Customers
“East Malaysia is a price sensitive market and that is our main chal- lenge. However, we have just launched MAN’s TCO Optimiser at the Malaysia International Bus, Truck & Components Expo (MIBTC) 2015 not long ago, which allowed us to show the customers that apart from the price of a new bus, they have to know the operating cost of the bus and the total cost of ownership (TCO) to run a business efficiently and economically. The online calculator of TCO covers all relevant factors. Only by knowing the TCO for your bus and your expenses per kilometre that you can reduce the bus operating cost. This is a useful and stra- tegic tool for us to convince our customers that MAN provides the best TCO.”
