In his opening speech, Bradley Mulroney, President and Chief Executive Officer of La- farge Malaysia said, “Safety is very important and it is built into the hearts of everyone who comes in contact with Lafarge. Our goal is that everyone who works with Lafarge goes home to their families everyday happy and healthy.”
In conjunction with the Health & Safety month, this year’s theme was based on Per- sonal Risk Assessment, which encompasses taking ownership and responsibility over the truck’s condition as well as the driver’s driv- ing skills.
For the first time since the inauguration of the Drivers’ Safety Day in 2005, truck manu- facturers and distributors were invited to the event. Some of the manufacturers that were represented at Lafarge Drivers’ Safety Day were Auman, Dong Feng, MAN, UD Truck and Volvo. These manufactures took the op- portunity to display their latest truck models and equipment and keep the participants en- thralled with the latest technology.
In addition, other exhibitors, for example, sup- pliers of lubricants, training consultants on driving, suppliers of GPS and safety equip- ment as well as Government agencies such as the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research, the Road Transport Department, the Road Safety Department and Puspakom, were present to keep the public informed and updated with the latest technology, regula- tions and activities.
Additionally, a list of interesting activities were lined up, for example, visiting interac- tive booths and testing one’s driving skills, for the participants to engage themselves.
As a mark of appreciation and in recogni- tion for their good safety performance for the year, drivers were presented Lafarge Road Safety Ambassador (RSA) awards. For those drivers who required improvement, they were encouraged to step-up their efforts to become one of Lafarge’s RSAs.
Other awards that were given out during the event included the First Mover Award and a Truck Showcase Award. The First Mover Award is an award to recognise the trans- port company which made the first move to
