Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) President Khairul Amir Mohamad Zubir has confirmed that the first Electric Vehicle (EV) bus is in the partner’s workshop in Cyberjaya. MPT are now awaiting confirmation and approval from all involved agencies before operating permission gets underway, in news reported from Bernama.

MPT in Final Stages of Obtaining Operating Permits from Relevant Agencies

“Two charging centres at MPT workshops in Kamunting and Taman Tasik Taiping have been tested and are working well," the president confirmed.

Recently, Perak Health, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Mohd Akmal Kamarudin said that MPT is in the final stages of implementing the use of electric buses on the Taiping Heritage Trail. The initiative is being undertaken by the council itself, as the route should be a catalyst for local heritage tourism.

A middle-sized, totally electric EV bus was donated by the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). So far, the cooperation consists of several local companies as well as Japanese agencies.

Elaborating further, Khairul Amir said the EV Bus has 22 seats and one disabled seat. The bus is planning to operate around Taiping up to the Heritage Trail, a distance of 11.5 kilometres.
